I am entering a miniature piece in the upcoming art show at Belmar Arts, “Old Masters.” It is called “Dutch Still Life, Miniaturized and Deconstructed.” I started out making a straightforward still life in a deep frame and that is a project I plan on carrying out extensively in the future. But my frame was too large for the miniatures I had chosen so I searched around and came across a hinged box. This picture shows it completely open but it will be displayed with the sides folded perpendicular to the back. It just seemed more interesting to me than to take the traditional still life and put some of the objects on different planes.

I would LOVE to see this show. The Old Masters is a great theme.
Even though you are not displaying this still life as in the photo with sides outstretched, I think that it looks interesting this way. Reminds me of a kind of altar —- aren’t there medieval altar panels like this, that fold up?
