I recently visited Berlin and was there for the opening of an intriguing art show: “World City: Refugees’ Memories and Futures as Models.” The show was an amazing use of miniatures and models to document the lives and experiences of refugees to Germany. Workshops were held in immigrant communities to collect memories and help translate those into physical models of past homes, remembered buildings, and hoped-for future places. Some of the models are below. They were made mostly of recycled materials by artists and students in Berlin. The website for the project is at: Weltstadt. This is one of several “memory model” projects that I will be talking about in a later blog.

Fantastic!
