About this blog: ideas about miniatures by Louise Krasniewicz

This blog explores the world of miniatures from multiple points of view: philosophical, anthropological, historical, and artistic.

You can find my own works in miniature at:

The Shrunken Place

You can explore the Flower Show Miniatures blog, which gives info on how to construct a Philadelphia Flower Show Miniature Setting entry at:

Flower Show Miniature Settings

My first blog started out as a way to document the process of creating a Miniature Setting for the Philadelphia Flower Show. Since then I have explored miniatures in general and have been asking why miniatures are so prevalent in cultures across time and place. I see miniatures, whether exquisitely constructed or roughly put together, as portals that invite the viewer to visit an alternative place and experience a different world. This blog doesn’t consider miniatures as cute playthings but as imaginative productions that are true marvels and wonders.

Hello there! I am a miniaturist/dollmaker interested in participating in the 2014 Flower Show Miniatures Settings. I went to their site and found nothing at all useful or otherwise. However I did download an application, which seems inconclusive if this is even the correct form, or if this is how you apply for this class. I will put a call into them tomorrow… any info you may forward may be helpful, like, did I already miss the proposal deadline, and do I need to belong to a particular group to apply or submit? My sister has belonged to the PHS for many years and we go to the show each year 🙂 Thanks for your reply

I’ll be sending you an email with information on applying and I will also be writing a blog entry on how to do it.

I’ve followed for awhile but haven’t taken the time to really explore. Thank you for all your wonderful posts. A miniature enthusiast myself – I’m a mini diorama photographer, I truly appreciate reading your views on the miniature world.
